Golden Bristlenose Eggs

We had a breeding bonanza over the weekend – our GBAs and bronze cories from several tanks (including the young ones!) were breeding like crazy. The above photo shows one of the clumps of eggs laid by our bristlenoses. They are orange in colour and stick together – the male then moves the clumps around the tank, presumably to keep fresh water moving over them. The one or two white eggs you see are ones which have not been fertilised. GBA eggs tend to hatch in 5-6 days. I keep them in with the parents until the last day or two, allowing them to look after the eggs, before removing them to their hatching tank.

Interestingly, the bristlenoses bred directly after I moved them into a new tank: the stress of moving did not bother them at all!

The cories were at it as well. Bronze cories lay their eggs on the glass – they were kind enough to lay on the front panel so I could take a photo. The darker eggs have been fertilised: the black dot in the centre is the tiny developing fish. Cory eggs hatch in 2-3 days.
